When it comes to SSD solid-state drives, we often see the term Trim instruction, so what is itTrim?
To solve the problem of hard drive speed reductionMicrosoft collaborated with major SD manufacturers to develop a new technology called Trim. The Trim instruction, also known as disable delete notification, belongs to the technical instruction of the ata8 acs2 specification. When using SSD, it is necessary to ensure that the Trim command in the system is turned on.
After the system initiates the Trim command on an SSD that supports the Trim command, data deletion operations are performed on the SSD. We know that the NTFS file system does not send deletion instructions to the SSD. The SSD sends a new Trim operation command, telling it that the relevant pages can be safely erased. After receiving this instruction, there is no rush to perform the erase operation, but to wait until there is another write operation, because the relevant area can be reused at this time, so there is no need to spend time erasing the original data. Its speed is much faster than directly reading and writing hard drives to mark deleted areas, which not only improves read and write efficiency but also greatly reduces the loss of solid-state drives.
What is the use of Trim?
If the SSD supports the Trim command, it can be used for a long time without slowing down, otherwise the SSD will slow down as it is used for a longer period of time.
How to check if Trim is enabled on the computer:
Click on the start menu, right-click on the attachment command prompt, and select Run with administrator privileges
Enter "fsutil behavior query Disabled Delete Notify"
If the return value is 0, it means that your TRIM is in an open state
If the return value is 1, it means that your TRIM is in a closed state
